Launch Vehicle – Senior Analysis Engineer

Our client is an established space technology company that combines agility, speed and innovation with decades of experience and proven quality. Their headquarters are in Switzerland and they have several international locations throughout Europe and the USA.
The company is an internationally preferred supplier of structures for all types of launch vehicles and a leader in selected satellite products and for constellations in the New Space sector. They complement their space business as a leader in high-precision products within the semiconductor industry.
We are looking for a Structural Analysis Engineer to join the recently inaugurated Hub in Portugal, contributing for the development of composite and metallic structures for the Launcher product unit.

Location: Lisbon, Portugal

Work Regime: Hybrid

Main Accountabilities:

The following in bold are considered critical:

  • Construct FE models to support analysis tasks;
  • Support technical trade-offs and solutions selection;
  • Perform complete stress analyses of metallic and composite structures using industry-standard methods;
  • Complete analyses for fasteners, lugs or other joints using industry-standard methods;
  • Creation of the technical documentation (Model Descriptions, Analysis Reports, Test Predictions, Test Reports, Correlation Reports);
  • Support, verify and validate analysis methods used for in-house tools using hand calculations and empirical data;
  • Assumption of analysis responsibility in various projects;
  • Perform concept studies in support of Systems Engineering;
  • Lead and manage analysis team task assignments;
  • Support analysis team with expertise;
  • Support analysis team with document reviews;
  • Support project proposals;
  • Participate in internal and external meetings and reviews;
  • Create complete Free Body Diagrams for all analyses completed;
    Coordinate with other analysis engineers assigned to the project;
  • Provide a summary of work completed to the lead analyst for the project;
  • Perception of self-control in the context of inputs, especially when submitting work package outputs;
  • Support of system engineering, manufacturing, testing and Product Assurance;
  • Periodic travel to US sites and Switzerland.

You will work closely with your colleagues in Design, Systems Engineering, Verification & Test, Quality, Project Management, and broadly across the company linked to ongoing projects. It´s expected that you can also collaborate with other company sites.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • M.Sc. in Mechanical and/or Aerospace Engineering;
  • 8+ years of experience in the aerospace industry.

Languages:

  • English (mandatory);
  • German.

Tools:

  • FEMAP/NxNastran (mandatory);
  • HyperWorks (other pre-processor can be considered);
  • MSC Nastran (alternatively NX Nastran);
  • ABAQUS or other non-linear solver;
  • Strong Matlab skills or equivalent;
  • Python.

Technical Competences:

The following in bold are considered critical:

  • Structural static and dynamic analysis of metallic and composite structures;
  • Fracture analysis;
  • Buckling analysis;
  • Acoustic analysis;
  • Hand calculation methods.
